Reality Check
Based on what I plan my life to be after college, my total monthly expenses would be around $6,306 and and the annual salary I would need is $94,590. The average wage in Texas for mechanical engineers is $106,024 and so I would be able to pay for my total expenses and after all the expenses that would leave me with $11,434. I could have more money by not spending on items that I wouldn't need but $11,400 leftover isn't bad. This reality check made me realize how expensive living in Houston can and all the various categories that you need to take account of and really made me appreciate all the work my parents do in order to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. It made realize just how much money my parent have to spend for internet, cable, gas, water, etc. Life is certainly not cheap.
